Ziyārat al-ʿAbbās^(a)

سَلاَمُ الله وَسَلاَمُ مَلاَئِكَتِهِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَأنْبِيَائِهِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

salāmu allāhi wa salāmu malā'ikatih¢ almuqarrab¢na wa anbiyā'ih¢ almursal¢na

Peace of Allāh and peace of His favorite angels, His commissioned prophets,

وَعِبَادِهِ الصَالِحينَ وَجَمِيعِ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصِّدِّيقينَ

wa `ibādih¢ al¥¥āli¦¢na wa jam¢`i alshshuhadā'i wal¥¥idd¢q¢na

His righteous servants, all the martyrs, and all the veracious (ones),

وَالزَّاكِيَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ فِيمَا تَغْتَدِي وَتَرُوحُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ أمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

walzzākiyātu al§§ayyibātu f¢mātaghtad¢ wa tar£¦u `alayka yabna am¢ri almu'min¢na

and also pure, true blessings that come and go, be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful.

أشْهَدُ لَكَ بِالتَّسْلِيمِ وَالتَّصْدِيقِ وَالْوَفَاءِ وَالنَّصِيحَةِ

ashhadu laka bilttasl¢mi waltta¥d¢qi walwafā'i walnna¥¢¦ati

I testify to you of submission (to the will of God), honest acceptance as true, loyalty, and sincerity

لِخَلَفِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ الْمُرْسَلِ وَالسِّبْطِ الْمُنْتَجَبِ

likhalafi alnnabiyyi ¥allā allāhu `alayhi wa ālih¢ almursali walssib§i almuntajabi

to the descendant of the commissioned Prophet, Allāh’s blessings be upon him and his Household, the chosen grandson (of the Prophet),

وَالدَّلِيلِ الْعَالِمِ وَالْوَصِيِّ الْمُبَلِّغِ وَالْمَظْلُومِ الْمُهْتَضَمِ

walddal¢li al`ālimi walwa¥iyyi almuballighi walma¨l£mi almuhta¤ami

the well knowledgeable guide (to the true religion), the conveying successor, and the wrongfully oppressed one.

فَجَزَاكَ اللَّهُ عَنْ رَسُولِهِ وَعَنْ أمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَعَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ صَلَوَاتُ الله عَلَيْهِمْ أفْضَلَ الْجَزَاءِ

fajazāka allāhu `an ras£lih¢ wa `an am¢ri almu’min¢na wa `an al¦asani wal¦usayni ¥alawātu allāhi `alayhim af¤ala aljazā'i

So, Allāh may reward you on behalf of His Messenger, the Commander of the Faithful, al-Ḥasan, and Al-Ḥusayn, peace of Allāh be upon them, with the best reward

بِمَا صَبَرْتَ وَاحْتَسَبْتَ وَأعَنْتَ فَنِعْمَ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ

bimā ¥abarta wa¦tasabta wa a`anta fani`ma `uqbā alddāri

for your steadfastness, dedication (to the sake of God), and support (for the right party). Very excellent be the reward of the eternal life.

لَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَنْ جَهِلَ حَقَّكَ وَاسْتَخَفَّ بِحُرْمَتِكَ

la`ana allāhu man qatalaka wa la`ana allāhu man jahila ¦aqqaka wastakhaffa bi¦urmatika

Allāh’s curse be on him who killed you. Allāh’s curse be on him who ignored your position and belittled your sanctity.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَنْ حَالَ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ مَاءِ الْفُرَاتِ

wa la`ana allāhu man ¦āla baynaka wa bayna mā'i alfurāti

Allāh’s curse be on him who precluded you from having from the water of the Euphrates.

أشْهَدُ أنَّكَ قُتِلْتَ مَظْلُوماً وَأنَّ اللَّهَ مُنْجِزٌ لَكُمْ مَا وَعَدَكُمْ

ashhadu annaka qutilta ma¨l£man wa anna allāha munjizun lakum māwa`adakum

I testify that you were killed wrongfully and that Allāh will verily fulfill His promise that He made with you.

جِئْتُكَ يَا بْنَ أمِيرِ الُمْؤْمِنينَ وَافِداً إِلَيْكُمْ وَقَلْبِي مُسَلِّمٌ لَكُمْ وَتَابِعٌ

ji'tuka yabna am¢ri almu'min¢na wāfidan ilaykum wa qalb¢ musallimun lakum wa tābi`un

O son of the Commander of the Faithful, I have come to you to present myself before you. My heart is submissive to you and is following you.

وَأنَا لَكُمْ تَابِعٌ وَنُصْرَتِي لَكُمْ مُعَدَّةٌ حَتَّى يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْحَاكِمِينَ

wa anā lakum tābi`un wa nu¥rat¢ lakum mu`addatun ¦attā ya¦kuma allāhu wa huwa khayru al¦ākim¢na

And I am your follower. I am ready to support you until Allāh decides. He is surely the best of all those who decide.

فَمَعَكُمْ مَعَكُمْ لاََ مَعَ عَدُوِّكُمْ

fama`akum ma`akum lā ma`a `aduwwikum

I am verily with you, not with your enemy.

إِنِّي بِكُمْ وَبِإِيَابِكُمْ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَبِمَنْ خَالَفَكُمْ وَقَتَلَكُمْ مِنَ الْكَافَرينَ

inn¢ bikum wa bi'iyābikum min almu’min¢na wa biman khālafakum wa qatalakum min alkāfir¢na

I am one of those who believe in you and believe in your Return. I also one of those who deny your opposites and killers.

قَتَلَ اللَّهُ أمَّةً قَتَلَتْكُمْ بِالأيْدِي وَالألْسُنِ

qatala allāhu ummatan qatalatkum bil-aid¢ wal-alsuni

Allāh may kill the group who killed you with hands and tongues (by giving orders of killing you.)

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أيُّهَا العَبْدُ الصَّالِحُ المُطِيعُ لله وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلأمِيرِ المُؤْمِنِينَ

alssalāmu `alayka ayyuhā al`abdu al¥¥āli¦u almu§¢`u lillāhi wa liras£lihi wa li'am¢ri almu'min¢na

Peace be upon you, O righteous servant (of Allāh) and obedient to Allāh, to His Messenger, to the Commander of the Faithful,

وَالحَسَنِ وَالحُسَيْنِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَسَلَّمَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ الله وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

wal¦asani wal¦usayni ¥allā allāhu `alayhim wa sallama alssalāmu `alayka wa ra¦matu allāhi wa barakātuh£

to al-Ḥasan, and to Al-Ḥusayn, peace and greetings of Allāh be upon them. Peace, Allāh’s mercy, blessings,

وَمَغْفِرَتُهُ وَرِضْوَانُهُ وَعَلَى رُوحِكَ وَبَدَنِكَ

wa maghfiratuh£ wa ri¤wānuh£ wa `alā r£¦ika wa badanika

forgiveness, and gratifications be upon you, your soul, and your body.

أشْهَدُ وَأشْهِدُ اللَّهَ أنَّكَ مَضَيْتَ عَلَى مَا مَضَى بِهِ البَدْرِيُّونَ وَالمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ الله

ashhadu wa ushhidu allāha annaka ma¤ayta `alā mā ma¤ā bih¢ albadriyy£na walmujāhid£na f¢ sab¢li allāhi

I testify, and call Allāh to witness, that you abided by the same course that was taken by the warriors of (the battle of) Badr and the strivers for Allāh’s sake

المُنَاصِحُونَ لَهُ فِي جِهَادِ أعْدَائِهِ المُبَالِغُونَ فِي نُصْرَةِ أوْلِيَائِهِ الذَّابُّونَ عَنْ أحِبَّائِهِ

almunā¥i¦£na lah£ f¢ jihādi a`dā’ih¢ almubāligh£na f¢ nu¥rati awliyā’ih¢ aldhdhābb£na `an a¦ibbā'ih¢

who sincerely served Him in the battlefields against His enemies, did their bests for supporting His disciples, and defended His intimate ones.

فَجَزَاكَ اللَّهُ أفْضَلَ الجَزَاءِ وَأكْثَرَ الجَزَاءِ وَأوْفَرَ الجَزَاءِ وَأوْفَى جَزَاءِ أحَدٍ مِمَّنْ وَفَى بِبَيْعَتِهِ

fajazāka allāhu af¤ala aljazā’i wa akthara aljazā’i wa awfara aljazā’i wa awfā jazā'i a¦adin mimman wa fābibay`atih¢

So, Allāh may reward you the best, the maximum, the most abundant, and the most conclusive reward that He may give to any one who fulfills his homage,

وَاسْتَجَابَ لَهُ دَعْوَتَهُ وَأطَاعَ وُلاةَ أمْرِهِ

wastajāba lah£ da`watah£ wa a§ā`a wulāta amrih¢

answers the call (of the religion), and obeys his (divinely elected) leaders.

أشْهَدُ أنَّكَ قَدْ بَالَغْتَ فِي النَّصِيحَةِ وَأعْطَيْتَ غَايَةَ المَجْهُودِ

ashhadu annaka qad bālaghta f¢ alnna¥¢¦ati wa a`§ayta ghāyata almajh£di

I testify that you acted extremely sincerely and exerted all your efforts (in this regard).

فَبَعَثَكَ اللَّهُ فِي الشُّهَدَاءِ وَجَعَلَ رُوحَكَ مَعَ أرْوَاحِ السُّعَدَاءِ

faba`athaka allāhu f¢ alshshuhadā’i wa ja`ala r£¦aka ma`a arwā¦i alssu`adā'i

Allāh may attach you to the martyrs, add your soul to the souls of the happy ones,

وَأعْطَاكَ مِنْ جِنَانِهِ أفْسَحَهَا مَنْزِلاً وَأفْضَلَهَا غُرَفاً

wa a`§āka min jinānih¢ afsa¦ahāmanzilan wa af¤alahā ghurafan

give you the largest abode in His Paradise and the most handsome room,

وَرَفَعَ ذِكْرَكَ فِي عِلِّيِّينَ وَحَشَرَكَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ وَحَسُنَ أوْلئِكَ رَفِيقاً

wa rafa`a dhikraka f¢ `illiyy¢na wa ¦asharaka ma`a alnnabiyy¢na wal¥¥idd¢q¢na walshshuhadā'i wal¥¥āli¦¢na wa ¦asuna ulā'ika raf¢qan

exalt your mention in `Illiyy¢n (the most elevated position), and join you to the Prophets, the veracious ones, the martyrs, and the righteous ones. Very excellent is the companionship of such ones.

أشْهَدُ أنَّكَ لَمْ تَهِنْ وَلَمْ تَنْكُلْ وَأنَّكَ مَضَيْتَ عَلَى بَصِيرَةٍ مِنْ أمْرِكَ مُقْتَدِياً بِالصَّالِحِينَ

ashhadu annaka lam tahin wa lam tankul wa annaka ma¤ayta `alā ba¥¢ratin min amrika muqtadiyan bil¥¥āli¦¢na

I testify that you did not lag behind and did not turn away the face, and that you left this life with full awareness of the truth, following the examples of the righteous ones

وَمُتَّبِعاً لِلنَّبِيِّينَ فَجَمَعَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ

wa muttabi`an lilnnabiyy¢na fajama`a allāhu baynanā wa baynaka

and sticking to the Prophets. So, Allāh may gather us with you,

وَبَيْنَ رَسُولِهِ وَأوْلِيَائِهِ فِي مَنَازِلِ المُخْبِتِينَ فَإِنَّهُ أرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

wa bayna ras£lih¢ wa awliyā’ih¢ f¢ manāzili almukhbit¢na fa'innahu ar¦amu alrrā¦im¢na

with His Messenger, and with His disciples in the abodes of those who practiced humbly (with their Lord). He is certainly the most merciful of all the merciful ones.
