Devotional Acts at Bab al-Faraj

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاقْضِ حَاجَتِي يَا اللَّهُ

allāhumma ¥alli `alā mu¦ammadin wa āli mu¦ammadin waq¤i ¦ājat¢ yā allāhu

O Allāh, (please) send blessings upon Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad and grant my request. O Allāh!

يَا مَنْ لاَ يَخِيبُ سَائِلُهُ وَلاَ يَنْفَدُ نَائِلُهُ

yā man lā yakh¢bu sā’iluh£ wa lā yanfadu nā'iluh£

O He Whose beseecher is never disappointed and Whose gifts are inexhaustible!

يَا قَاضِيَ الْحَاجَاتِ يَا مُجِيبَ الدَّعَوَاتِ

yā qā¤iya al¦ājāti yā muj¢ba aldda`awāti

O Settler of needs! O Responding to the prayers!

يَا رَبَّ الأرَضِينَ وَالسَّمَاوَاتِ يَا كَاشِفَ الْكُرُبَاتِ

yā rabba al-ara¤¢na walssamāwāti yā kāshifa alkurubāti

O Lord of the earth layers and the heavens! O Reliever of agonies!

يَا وَاسِعَ الْعَطِيَّاتِ يَا دَافِعَ النَّقِمَاتِ يَا مُبَدِّلَ السَّيِّئَاتِ حَسَنَاتٍ

yā wāsi`a al`a§iyyāti yā dāfi`a alnnaqimāti yā mubaddila alssayyi'āti ¦asanātin

O expansive Donor of gifts! O Savior from hardships! O He Who changes the punishments of wrongdoings into rewards for good deeds!

عُدْ عَلَيَّ بِطَوْلِكَ وَفَضْلِكَ وَإِحْسَانِكَ وَاسْتَجِبْ دُعَائِي فِيمَا سَألْتُكَ وَطَلَبْتُ مِنْكَ

بِحَقِّ نَبِيِّكَ وَوَصِيِّكَ وَأوْلِيَائِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ

`ud `alayya bi§awlika wa fa¤lika wa i¦sānika wastajib du`ā'¢ f¢mā sa'altuka wa §alabtu minka bi¦aqqi nabiyyika wa wa¥iyyika wa awliyā'ika al¥¥āli¦¢na

(Please do) confer upon me with Your bounty, favor, and kindness, and (please do) respond to my prayers regarding that which I have besought and asked from You, in the name of Your Prophet, Your Prophet’s successor, and Your righteous saints.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي حَلَلْتُ بِسَاحَتِكَ لِعِلْمِي بِوَحْدَانِيَّتِكَ وَصَمَدَانِيَّتِكَ وَأنَّهُ لاَ قَادِرَ عَلَى قَضَاءِ حَاجَتِي غَيْرُكَ

allāhumma inn¢ ¦alaltu bisā¦atika li`ilm¢ biwa¦dāniyyatika wa ¥amadāniyytika wa annah£ lā qādira `alā qa¤ā'i ¦ājat¢ ghayruka

O Allāh, I am residing in Your courtyard, because I have full recognition of Your Oneness and Independence and I know for sure that none can ever settle my need save You.

وَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ يَا رَبَّ أنَّهُ كُلَّمَا شَاهَدْتُ نِعْمَتَكَ عَلَيَّ اشْتَدَّتْ فَاقَتِي إِلَيْكَ

wa qad Alīmtu yā rabbi annah£ kullamā shāhadtu ni`mataka `alayya ishtaddat fāqat¢ ilayka

I also admit, O my Lord, that the more I feel Your favors upon me, the more I need You.

وَقَدْ طَرَقَنِي يَا رَبِّ مِنْ مُهِمِّ أمْرِي مَا قَدْ عَرَفْتَهُ لأنّكَ عَالِمٌ غَيْرُ مُعَلَّمٍ

wa qad §araqan¢ yā rabbi min muhimmi amr¢ mā qad `araftah£ li'annaka `ālimun ghayru mu`allamin

O my Lord, I have been inflicted with aggrieving matters that You know, because You are All-knowing and You do not want information.

وَأسْألُكَ بِالِاسْمِ الَّذِي وَضَعْتَهُ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ فَانْشَقَّتْ وَعَلَى الأرَضِينَ فَانْبَسَطَتْ

wa as'aluka bilismi alladh¢ wa¤a`tah£ `alā alssamāwāti fanshaqqat wa `alā al-ara¤¢na fanbasa§at

I thus beseech You in the Name that when You put on the heavens, they rent asunder, when You put on the earth, it spread out,

وَعَلَى النُّجُومِ فَانْتَشَرَتْ وَعَلَى الْجِبَالِ فَاسْتَقَرَّتْ

wa `alā alnnuj£mi fantasharat wa `alā aljibāli fastaqarrat

when You put on the stars, they diffused, and when You put on the mountains, they settled down;

وَأسْألُكَ بِالِاسْمِ الَّذِي جَعَلْتَهُ عِنْدَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعِنْدَ عَلِيٍّ وَعِنْدَ الْحَسَنِ وَعِنْدَ الْحُسَيْنِ

wa as'aluka bilismi alladh¢ ja`altah£ `inda mu¦ammadin wa `inda Alīyyin wa `inda al¦asani wa `inda al¦usayni

and I beseech You in the Name that You put with Muḥammad, with Alī, with al-Ḥasan, with Al-Ḥusayn,

وَعِنْدَ الأئِمَّةِ كُلِّهِمْ صَلَوَاتُ الله عَلَيْهِمْ أجْمَعِينَ

wa `inda al-a'immati kullihim ¥alawātu allāhi `alayhim ajma`¢na

and with all the Imāms, blessings be upon them all,

أنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأنْ تَقْضِيَ لِي يَا رَبِّ حَاجَتِي

an tu¥alliya `alā mu¦ammadin wa āli mu¦ammadin wa an taq¤iya l¢ yā rabbi ¦ājat¢

to bless Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad, to grant me all my requests, O my Lord,

وَتُيَسِّرَ عَسِيرَهَا وَتَكْفِيَنِي مُهِمَّهَا وَتَفْتَحَ لِي قُفْلَهَا

wa tuyassira `as¢rahā wa takfiyan¢ muhimmahā wa tafta¦a l¢ quflahā

to make easy the difficult ones of them, to relieve me from the grievances of them, and to unlock for me their locks.

فَإِنْ فَعَلْتَ ذٰلِكَ فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ غَيْرَ جَائِرٍ فِي حُكْمِكَ وَلاَ حَائِفٍ فِي عَدْلِكَ

fa'in fa`alta dhālika falaka al¦amdu wa in lam taf`al falaka al¦amdu ghayra jā'irin f¢ ¦ukmika wa lā khā'ifin f¢ `adlika

If You do that for me, then all praise be to You, and if You do not, still all praise be to You, for You never decide wrongly and You never exceed justice.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ يُونُسَ بْنَ مَتَّى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ عَبْدَكَ وَنَبِيَّكَ

allāhumma inna y£nusa bna mattā `alayhi alssalāmu `abdaka wa nabiyyaka

O Allāh, Jonah the son of Matthias, peace be upon him, Your servant and Prophet,

دَعَاكَ فِي بَطْنِ الْحُوتِ فَاسْتَجَبْتَ لَهُ وَأنَا أدْعُوكَ فَاسْتَجِبْ لِي بِحَقّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

da`āka f¢ ba§ni al¦£ti fastajabta lah£ wa anā ad`£ka fastajib l¢ bi¦aqqi mu¦ammadin wa āli mu¦ammadin

prayed You from the inside of the whale, and You responded to his prayer. I thus pray You; so, (please) respond to me in the name of Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ أمَرْتَ بِالدُّعَاءِ وَتَكَفَّلْتَ بِالإِجَابَةِ وَأنَا أدْعُوكَ كَمَا أمَرْتَنِي

allāhumma innaka amarta bilddu`ā’i wa takaffalta bil-ijābati wa anā ad`£ka kamā amartan¢

O Allāh, You have ordered us to pray You and You have thus promised of response. Hence, I am praying You as You have ordered;

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي يَا كَرِيمُ

fa¥alli `alā mu¦ammadin wa āli mu¦ammadin wastajib l¢ kamā wa`adtan¢ yā kar¢mu

so, (please) send blessings upon Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad and respond to me as You have promised, O All-generous!

يَا مُعِزَّ كُلِّ ذَلِيلٍ وَيَا مُذِلَّ كُلِّ عَزِيزٍ

wa yā mudhilla kulli `az¢zin ta`lamu kurbat¢

O He who (is able to) reinforce any humble one! O He who (is able to) humiliate any arrogant one!

تَعْلَمُ كُرْبَتِي فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ وَفَرِّجْ عَنِّي يَا كَرِيمُ

ta`lamu kurbat¢ fa¥alli `alā mu¦ammadin wa ālih¢ wa farrij `ann¢ yā kar¢mu

You know my agony; so, (please) bless Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad and relieve me, O All-generous!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أسْألُكَ يَا مَنْ لاَ تَرَاهُ الْعُيُونُ وَلاَ تُحِيطُ بِهِ الظُّنُونُ وَلاَ يَصِفُهُ الْوَاصِفُونَ

allāhumma inn¢ as'aluka yā man lā tarāhu al`uy£nu wa lā tu¦¢§u bih¢ al¨¨un£nu wa lā ya¥ifuh£ alwā¥if£na

O Allāh, I beseech You, O He Whom cannot be seen by eyes, Whom cannot be comprehended by visions, Whom cannot be described by all those who describe Him,

وَلاَ تُغَيِّرُهُ الْحَوَادِثُ وَلاَ تُفْنِيهِ الدُّهُورُ تَعْلَمُ مَثَاقِيلَ الْجِبَالِ

wa lā tughayyiruh£ al¦awādithu wa lā tufn¢hi aldduh£ru ta`lamu mathāq¢la aljibāli

Whom cannot be affected by events, and Whom cannot be obliterated due to passage of ages! You know the measures of mountains,

وَمَكَايِيلَ الْبِحَارِ وَوَرَقَ الأشْجَارِ وَرَمْلَ الْقِفَارِ

wa makāy¢la albi¦āri wa waraqa al-ashjāri wa ramla alqifāri

the amounts (of water) of oceans, the number of the trees’ leaves, the sands of deserts,

وَمَا أضَاءَتْ بِهِ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ وَأظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ وَوَضَحَ عَلَيْهِ النَّهَارُ

wa mā a¤ā'at bih¢ alshshamsu walqamaru wa a¨lama `alayhi allaylu wa wa¤a¦a `alayhi alnnahāru

whatever is under the sunlight and moonlight, whatever is under darkness of night, and whatever is shown by daylight.

وَلاَ تُوَارِي مِنْكَ سَمَاءٌ سَمَاءً وَلاَ أرْضٌ أرْضاً وَلاَ جَبَلٌ مَا فِي أصْلِهِ وَلاَ بَحْرٌ مَا فِي قَعْرِهِ

wa lā tuwār¢ minka samā'un samā’an wa lā ar¤un ar¤an wa lā jabalun mā f¢ a¥lih¢ wa lā ba¦run mā f¢ qa`rih¢

No sky can screen another sky from You, no layer of the earth can screen another layer from You, no mountain can screen its other parts from You, and no ocean can screen its depths from You.

أسْألُكَ أنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

as'aluka an tu¥alliya `alā mu¦ammadin wa āli mu¦ammadin

I thus beseech You to send blessings upon Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad,

وَأنْ تَجْعَلَ خَيْرَ أمْرِي آخِرَهُ وَخَيْرَ أعْمَالِي خَوَاتِيمَهَا

wa an taj`ala khayra amr¢ ākhirah£ wa khayra a`māl¢ khawāt¢mahā

to cause the best of my affair to be the conclusion of it, to cause the best of my deeds to be the last of them,

وَخَيْرَ أيَّامِي يَوْمَ ألْقَاكَ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

wa khayra ayyām¢ yawma alqāka innaka `alā kulli shā'in qad¢run

and to cause the best of my days to be the day when I meet You, for You verily have power over all things.

اَللَّهُمَّ مَنْ أرَادَنِي بِسُوءٍ فَأرِدْهُ وَمَنْ كَادَنِي فَكِدْهُ وَمَنْ بَغَانِي بِهَلَكَةٍ فَأهْلِكْهُ

allāhumma man arādan¢ bis£'in fa’arid-hu wa man kādan¢ fakid-hu wa man baghān¢ bihalakatin fa'ahlik-hu

O Allāh, (please do) deter all those who intend evil to me, encumber all those who plan to do evil to me, terminate all those who is set to terminate me,

وَاكْفِنِي مَا أهَمَّنِي مِمَّنْ دَخَلَ هَمُّهُ عَلَيَّ اَللَّهُمَّ أدْخِلْنِي فِي دِرْعِكَ الْحَصِينَةِ

wakfin¢ mā ahamman¢ mimman dakhala hammuh£ `alayya allāhumma adkhiln¢ f¢ dir`ika al¦a¥¢nati

and save me from all that which aggrieves me at the hands of those who intend grief to me. O Allāh, (please do) include me with Your impervious armor

وَاسْتُرْنِي بِسِتْرِكَ الْوَاقِي يَا مَنْ يَكْفِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَلاَ يَكْفِي مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ

wasturn¢ bisitrika alwāq¢ yā man yakf¢ min kulli shay’in wa lā yakf¢ minhu shay'un

and cover me with Your protective shield. O He Who saves from all things and nothing can ever save from You,

إِكْفِنِي مَا أهَمَّنِي مِنْ أمْرِ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ وَصَدِّقْ قَوْلِي وَفِعْلِي يَا شَفِيقُ يَا رَفِيقُ

akfin¢ mā ahamman¢ min amri alddunyā wal-ākhirati wa ¥addiq qawl¢ wa fi`l¢ yā shaf¢qu yā raf¢qu

(please) relieve me from whatever has aggrieved me from the affairs of this world and the world to come and cause my words to be corresponding with my deeds. O All-sympathetic! O All-kind!

فَرِّجْ عَنِّيَ الْمَضِيقَ وَلاَ تُحَمِّلْنِي مَا لاَ أطِيقُ

farrij `ann¢ alma¤¢qa wa lā tu¦ammiln¢ mā lā u§¢qu

(please) relieve me from depression and do not burden on me that which I cannot stand.

اَللَّهُمَّ احْرُسْنِي بِعَيْنِكَ الَّتِي لاَ تَنَامُ وَارْحَمْنِي بِقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَيَّ يَا أرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

allāhumma i¦rusn¢ bi`aynika allat¢ lā tanāmu war¦amn¢ biqudratika `alayya yā ar¦ama alrrā¦im¢na

O Allāh, (please) guard me with Your Eye that never sleeps and have mercy upon me in the name of Your power over me. O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

يَا عَلِيُّ يَا عَظِيمُ أنْتَ عَالِمٌ بِحَاجَتِي وَعَلَى قَضَائِهَا قَدِيرٌ

yā Alīyyu yā `a¨¢mu anta `ālimun bi¦ājat¢ wa `alā qa¤ā'ihā qad¢run

O All-high! O All-great! You know what I need and You have the power to grant it to me,

وَهِيَ لَدَيْكَ يَسِيرٌ وَأنَا إِلَيْكَ فَقِيرٌ فَمُنَّ بِهَا عَلَيَّ يَا كَرِيمُ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

wa hiya ladayka yas¢run wa anā ilayka faq¢run famunna bihā `alayya yā kar¢mu innaka `alā kulli shay'in qad¢run

which is an easy thing to be done by You and I do want You; so, (please) do me the favor of settling my need, O All-merciful! Verily, You have power over all things.

إِلهِي قَدْ عَلِمْتَ حَوَائِجِي فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاقْضِهَا

ilāh¢ qad Alīmta ¦awā’ij¢ fa¥alli `alā mu¦ammadin wa āli mu¦ammadin waq¤ihā

O my God, You have known my needs; so, please send blessings upon Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad and settle my needs.

وَقَدْ أحْصَيْتَ ذُنُوبِي فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ وَاغْفِرْهَا يَا كَرِيمُ

wa qad a¦¥ayta dhun£b¢ fa¥alli `alā mu¦ammadin wa ālih¢ waghfirhā yā kar¢mu

You have accounted all my sins; so, please send blessings upon Muḥammad and his Household and forgive them, O All-generous!

إِنْ كُنْتُ بِئْسَ الْعَبْدُ فَأنْتَ نِعْمَ الرَّبُّ

in kuntu bi'sa al`abdu fa'anta ni`ma alrrabbu

If I am the worst servant (of You), then You are the All-excellent Lord;

إِفْعَلْ بِي مَا أنْتَ أهْلُهُ وَلاَ تَفْعَلْ بِي مَا أنَا أهْلُهُ يَا أرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

if`al b¢ mā anta ahluh£ wa lā taf`al b¢ mā anā ahluh£ yā ar¦ama alrrā¦im¢na

so, please do to me that which befits You and do not do to me that which I deserve, O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ عَظُمَ الذَّنْبُ مِنْ عَبْدِكَ فَلْيَحْسُنِ الْعَفْوُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ يَا كَرِيمُ

allāhumma in `a¨uma aldhdhanbu min `abdika falya¦sun al`afwu min `indika yā kar¢mu

O Allāh, if Your servant’s sin has been very flagrant, then, let Your pardon be very excellent, O All-generous!

إِرْحَمْ مَنْ أسَاءَ وَاقَتَرَفَ وَاسْتَكَانَ وَاعْتَرَفَ

ir¦am man asā'a waqatarafa wastakāna wa`tarafa

(Please) have mercy upon him who had misbehaved and committed sins, but he then submitted and confessed.
