Bidding Farewell
Upon leaving the holy shrine of Imām ʿAlī(a), you may choose to recite the following farewell passage:
alssalāmu `alayka wa ra¦matu allāhi wa barakātuh£ astawdi`uka allāha wa astar`¢ka wa aqra'u `alayka alssalāma |
Peace and Allāh’s mercy and blessings be upon you. I entrust you with Allāh and ask Him to keep you under His custody and to send blessings upon you. |
āmannā billāhi wa bilrrusuli wa bimā jā'at bih¢ wa da`at ilayhi wa dallat `alayhi faktubnā ma`a alshshāhid¢na |
We believe in Allāh, in the Messengers, and in what they have conveyed to us, in that to which they have called, and in that to which they have guided. So, (please, our Lord,) include us with the witnesses. |
allāhumma lā taj`alhu ākhira al`ahdi min ziyārat¢ iyyāhu |
O Allāh, (please) do not decide this visit of mine to him (i.e. the Imām) to be the last, |
fa'in tawaffaytan¢ qabla dhālika fa'inn¢ ashhadu f¢ mamāt¢ `alā mā shahidtu `alayhi f¢ ¦ayāt¢ |
and if you cause me to die before that, then I bear witness in my death to the same things to which I have born witness in my lifetime: |
ashhadu anna am¢ra almu'min¢na alīyyan wal¦asana wal¦usayna wa alīyya bna al¦usayni wa muḥammada bna alīyyin wa jaʿfara bna mu¦ammadin |
I bear witness that ʿAlī the Commander of the Faithful, and al-Ḥasan, Al-Ḥusayn, ʿAlī ibn Al-Ḥusayn, Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, |
wa mūsā bna jaʿfarin wa alīyya bna mūsā wa muḥammada bna alīyyin wa alīyya bna mu¦ammadin wal¦asana bna alīyyin |
Mūsā ibn Jaʿfar, ʿAlī ibn Mūsā, Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, |
wal¦ujjata bna al¦asani ¥alawātuka `alayhim ajma`¢na a'immat¢ |
and al-Ḥujja b. al-Ḥasan— may Your blessings be upon all of them—are my Imāms. |
wa ashhadu anna man qatalahum wa ¦ārabahum mushrik£na wa man radda `alayhim f¢ asfali darakin min alja¦¢mi |
I also bear witness that all of those who have slain and fought against them are polytheists and that all of those who reject them shall be in the lowest class of Hellfire. |
wa ashhadu anna man ¦ārabahum lanā a`dā’un wa na¦nu minhum burā’u wa annahum ¦izbu alshshay§āni |
I also bear witness that those who have fought against the Imāms are our enemies and we disavow them, because they are indeed the party of Satan. |
wa `alā man qatalahum la`natu allāhi walmalā'ikati walnnāsi ajma`¢na wa man sharika f¢him wa man sarrah£ qatluhum |
The curse of Allāh, His angels and all the peoples be upon those who killed the Imāms, and upon those who had any role in killing them and those who were pleased for their having been killed. |
allāhumma inn¢ as'aluka ba`da al¥¥alati walttasl¢mi an tu¥alliya `alā mu¦ammadin wa alīyyin |
O Allāh, as I begin with invoking Your peace and blessings upon them, I pray you to bless Muḥammad, ʿAlī, |
wa fā§imata wal¦asani wal¦usayni wa alīyyin wa mu¦ammadin wa jaʿfarin wa mūsā wa alīyyin wa mu¦ammadin wa alīyyin wal¦asani wal¦ujjati |
Fāṭima, al-Ḥasan, Al-Ḥusayn, ʿAlī, Muḥammad, Jaʿfar, Mūsā, ʿAlī, Muḥammad, ʿAlī, al-Ḥasan, and al-Ḥujja, |
wa lā taj`alhu ākhira al`ahdi min ziyāratih¢ fa'in ja`altah£ fa¦shurn¢ ma`a hā'ulā'i almusammayna al a'immati |
and not to decide this visit of me to his tomb to be the last, and if you decide so, then (please) include me with these Imāms to whom I have referred. |
allāhumma wa dhallil qul£banā lahum bil§§ā`ati walmunā¥a¦ati walma¦abbati walmu'āzarati walttasl¢mi |
O Allāh, make our hearts subservient to them through obedience, well-wishing, love, support, and submission. |
